I'd imagine you may feel the effects of this strike e're long though maybe not quite as much as we feel it. At least American Idol has begun it's new season and while I'm not mad about it, it's better than most 'reality' shows I suppose and certainly better than most of the repeats! Mind you, there are some repeats worth watching over and over...and talk about old! PBS here shows BritCom night on Saturdays and still showing repeated repeats of "Are you being served", "Keeping Up Appearances", Fawlty Towers...never did like that show or John Cleese! Best of all "The Vicar of Dibley" (before Alice even got married...lolol). Now, how old would they be?

As to the TV programmes you mentioned, I live in the UK and we do have our own version of those programmes over here.
I have caught a glimpse now and again of the said programmes and could not watch them if you paid me to do so.
Funny thing is, when I am at work, I am left out of the conversation quite a lot as my colleagues are engrossed with this type of programme. I know nothing about them but they hold no interest for me anyway.
I would think the strike will eventually catch up with us in the UK, especially on the cable channels, but as I am not an avid TV watcher, it will not make a lot of difference to me.
WE are still be subjected to programmes that were running five years ago. We pay a TV licenece of approx $280 per year for the pleasure of watching all those repeats.
Give me the PC anytime!
