And Hurrah for Dixville Notch/Hart, NH!! Four votes may not seem much in the grand scheme of things and, of course, remains to be seen, today, how well the rest of the State will do by Paul but I’m encouraged. Of course it’s probable he will not win the nomination but it bodes well for, particularly the media, note being taken that maybe the old two-party system is in it’s death throes. How much longer will the media…specifically tv…be able to get away with excluding candidates of a different ideology from debates, sound bites ad infinitum?
I don’t agree with Mr. Paul 100% but I can compromise on the areas in which I don’t. But I will be happy to vote for someone who has the integrity not to flip-flop, believes in the Constitution as written and on what this country was based and the freedom to live our lives without the choke-hold of big governement. I’m long past ‘over’ being a law-breaker…by not wearing my seatbelt, rebelling against cigarette bans, making it my decision on how to raise children…and not by government edict, what do with and how to treat my body. These are MY business, no-one else’s. Laws have long been in place for how to safely drive a vehicle (by qualifying for a licence), being over 18yrs. of age therefore it is LEGAL for me to smoke, criminal statutes for abusing or harming a child (and others) to the extent of endangering limb or life but apparently none have been sufficient. Sort of reminds me of the Ten Commandments…first we have the Golden Rule but then read further and we find ten specific definitions of how we may live the Rule which…and certainly not intending to be offensive to anyone…seems redundant. So with big government…or Big Brother….and why being a Libertarian feels like home to me. Yes, I know Ron Paul is a card carrying republican but he’s the closest we, who choose freedom, have to carry the standard.
I’d love to be able to say I have high hopes of his winning the nomination and, further, the Presidential election but I don’t, of course. Maybe there are many more of us seeking genuine change that I might be totally surprised but even if not…which is most likely…I can definitely see a bigger, brighter glimmer of hope for the future if someone like Ron Paul keeps up the momentum he’s fueled.
